In a truly !!!!!!! moment, Zendaya did a full-on costume change at the 2024 Met Gala and appeared in a Victorian-inspired black bodice dress that was the literal definition of d-r-a-m-a. Like, to say we’re obsessed is a serious understatement.
FYI, the ~lewk~ is a 1996 Givenchy gown by John Galliano, which Z paired with a gorgeous floral hat.
And in case ya missed it, the celeb’s first ’fit of the night was a stunning Maison Margiela Artisanal by John Galliano peacock-colored dress, which was *also* styled by her longtime collaborator Law Roach.
The press release detailing all the info on the first dress notes the following: “For her appearance, John Galliano specially created an haute couture look for co-chair Zendaya composed of a sage lamé and organza bias-cut dress worn over a duchess satin corset. The dress features bands of hand-painted metallic crin, a drape and bow layered from aluminum material and iridescent organza, and a corsage hand-embroidered with natural motifs hand-painted in electric blue and emerald green. Zendaya’s hand-painted plume-like veil and hat wrapped in stockings was created by Stephen Jones for Maison Margiela. And her custom-made Tabi pumps by Christian Louboutin for Maison Margiela.”
Despite Z showing up with not one but two (!!) incredible looks tonight, Law recently dished to the New York Times that he hadn’t seen the actor’s Met Gala look at the time of the interview. 👀 “I haven’t seen Zendaya’s dress! We’ve been on two press tours—Dune 2 and Challengers—and doing two Vogue covers,” he said during the convo, which was published on May 2. “The dress isn’t even made. They won’t fit until Saturday (May 4).”
In the interview, the stylist referred to Zendaya as his “fashion soulmate” and gave a bit of insight into their longtime ’ship: “I come in with, ‘You should wear 14 dresses, and you should change, and you should have a wig on and take it off so your hair should fall down!’ And she’s, ‘No, no, no, no. We’re going to do two dresses, and I’m going to keep the same hair.’ It’s like, I write the script, and she does the rewrites.”
Love these two!
